Rayagada: Several anti-Maoist posters were put on in Rayagada district on Wednesday accusing the rebels of "misguiding innocent tribals and engaging them in violent activities".

Anti-Maoist organisation Sampurna Hinsa Mukti Odisha Abhijan (complete violence-free Odisha), which had put on the posters at the Bissamkatak block headquarters of the district, have warned the Maoists of dire consequences if they did not stop their "nefarious activities".

"The Maoists are not at all concerned about the tribal. Few anti-socials and mischief-mongers are creating disturbances in the area in the name of Maoists. They don't have any ideology and misguide the villagers," reads one of the poster labelled on a wall at the tehsil office of Bissamkatak.

They have also accused the Maoists of killing innocent tribal and being hindrance to development activities in the district. "The Maoists should come up with the list of development works they have done for the tribals. Only hollow claims of development and fighting for the rights of tribal will not work. In reality, the Maoists are the real obstruction for development in tribal districts," reads another poster.

"If the Maoists want development of the tribals of Rayagada, they will have to leave the path of violence and adopt the path of development. Else, they will have to leave the district," reads the poster.

Police said that few posters have been seized and an inquiry has been initiated in this regard. "We are verifying the posters and are trying to find out the persons who have pasted the posters," said Y.J. Rao, additional superintendent of police, Rayagada.
