Bhubaneswar: The administration is encountering several problems in executing water supply projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) here.

The problems plaguing the projects at seven locations range from shortage of land and manpower to issues such as local resistance.

This was revealed during a recent review meeting by the housing and urban development department to ascertain the status of various projects where the executors revealed the problems and sought cooperation from the government.

Non-availability of land for pipelines has become an obstacle for a project at Jharana Sahi, while delay in getting permission for road trenching has halted work near the Kuakhai. At Bhoi Nagar, the contractor is facing land and manpower shortage along with other "local issues".

At Salia Sahi, the contractor said it was not getting land to construct an underground reservoir, while residents' opposition and delay in getting forest clearance to use forestland for pipelines has halted work at Ghatikia.

On March 7, The Telegraph reported about hurdles in executing park projects under the scheme when it was revealed that the authorities had been able to complete work in only one of the eight parks in the last fiascal. There were plans to complete eight parks and 17 water projects under Amrut by March 2018.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation looks after the park projects while the Public Health Engineering Organisation (Pheo) has been entrusted with the water supply projects under Amrut here.

"We review the projects periodically and ascertain problems. Now that the problems are coming clear, we will try to resolve those and ensure that the projects are completed soon. We will take up the issues with the departments concerned," said Pheo superintending engineer C.R. Jena.
