Balasore: Police busted an inter-state gang of robbers with the arrest of three persons from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The police seized two guns and 19 rounds of ammunition from them. The three were booked under various sections of the Arms Act and other sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder, said the police, adding that four others of the gang had fled.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gokul Singh, 30, and Bharat Singh, 40, both from Dhanupura village in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh. Besides, Harbhajan Singh, 31, is from Baisalinagar in Jaipur district of Madhya Pradesh. During interrogation, the police learnt they had been staying at Remuna.
"They were produced in court on Monday after being booked under sections 399, 402 and 307 of the IPC and 25 and 27 of the Arms Act," said Basta sub-divisional police officer Ranjit Prusti.
"They had come in an SUV. Four members of the gang fled in the car after local police chased them. Efforts are on to nab them. Further investigations are on," he said.
Mayurbhanj police suspected that the gang had been involved in the burglaries of jewellery shops at Betnati and Bada Sahi.
"We suspect that the gang had been involved in the loot of two jewellery shops in our area. We are carrying out an investigation, along with our Basta counterparts," said Betnati sub-divisional police officer Gobinda Chandra Sethi.
In another development, Bada Sahi police of Mayurbhanj arrested two history-sheeters involved in a number of crimes, including dacoity.
The two, identified as Karunakar Nayak of Dahi Sahi and Jayant Behera of Sana Nuagaon village, were caught by policemen from the road connecting Bada Sahi and Baidapura.
