Imphal, March 10: Suspected militants of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) today struck yet again at another centre of the ongoing higher secondary examinations in Manipur.
The rebels attacked the principal of a college for ignoring its warning against allowing cheating in examination halls. Police sources said some gunmen, believed to be activists of the militant outfit, came to S.K. Women’s College at Nambol in Bishnpur district at 1 pm. They asked the principal of the college, N. Shamungou Singh, to come out and fired at his leg.
Sources said the principal was attacked for failing to curb cheating by candidates at the examination centre. The rebels fled immediately after the attack. The injured teacher was admitted to a local hospital, police said.
The principal is the third to have been targeted by the KYKL during the examinations conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur, which began on March 3. On the second day of the examination, KYKL insurgents fired one bullet into the leg of K.D. Leivon Kom, the principal of Chingtam College in Churachandpur district, for not preventing use of unfair means by the students. The previous day, the KYKL had pulled up two teachers acting as invigilators, including a woman, in Thoubal district.
The outfit struck again on Thursday, this time shooting an upper division clerk of N.R. College of Imphal West in the leg. The clerk was identified as Angom Basanta.
