Shillong, July 28: The Meghalaya BJP, which is working hard to accomplish its "mission-40", a target for securing 40 out of 60 seats in the upcoming Assembly election, will also come out with Meghalaya Vision-30, a long-term vision document aimed at transforming the 45-year-old state into a "new Meghalaya" and take the hill state to new heights of development.
The BJP is also gearing up to attack the Congress-led government by using facts and figures while exposing failures of the present government under the leadership of chief minister Mukul Sangma.
After a meeting with BJP's national coordinator for departments and projects Arvind Menon here, BJP Meghalaya president Shibun Lyngdoh said the party would be further strengthened through the working of its departments and projects.
Menon arrived here today and addressed conveners and co-conveners of the BJP, 19 departments and 10 project committees at the BJP office here.
Menon advised the state BJP to make the various departments work actively, and accommodate more party members in these departments and project committees so that they can work enthusiastically for the interest of the party and the people.
On the preparation for the Assembly election and the visit of BJP national president Amit Shah to the state next month, Lyngdoh said his visit had to be rescheduled following presidential election and filing of nominations for Rajya Sabha seats.
Earlier, Shah was scheduled to visit Meghalaya on August 12, where he would also inaugurate the newly built BJP office here.
"Tentatively, the national president will visit between August 15 and 25, and will be accompanied by general secretary in-charge election Bhupendra Yadav," Lyngdoh said.
Lyngdoh claimed that during Shah's visit, some sitting MLAs would also meet him as a courtesy.
On how the BJP, without having a single MLA in the 60-member Assembly will achieve its "mission-40", Lyngdoh without divulging much, said after completing the organisational structure this month, the party would start identifying aspiring candidates in August-September in all 60 constituencies.
"We are working hard towards accomplishing this mission. Already there are governments in 18 states which include 15 formed by the BJP alone, and five coalition governments. We hope that we will get 40 seats and form the next government in the state," Lyngdoh said.
He said the party would attack the government on various issues concerning the state, and expose failures of the Congress-led government with facts and figures, through information received under the Right to Information Act, 2005. "There are various issues that the government failed to address be it atrocities and crimes against women and children, corruption or unemployment and financial mismanagement."
Lyngdoh criticised Mukul over the creation of new districts in 2012 just before the 2013 Assembly election, as well as inauguration of new civil sub-divisions and community and rural development blocks in the past two months ahead of the 2018 Assembly poll.
"The districts created in 2012 are not fully functional till now, and people are making negative remarks that apart from not having a full-fledged state (with a proper boundary), we also do not have full-fledged districts," the BJP president said, citing South Garo Hills district which is yet to be a full-fledged district, though it was created 25 years ago, on June 18, 1992.
On the beef issue, Lyngdoh said the Congress and the chief minister seem to be talking about it to hide failures of the Congress-led government from the people.
Moreover, the BJP president said his party would also come up with a vision document titled Meghalaya Vision-30 instead of party manifesto.
"This document will be a long-term vision for transforming our state into a new Meghalaya by 2030. We are working with the central leaders to bring out this vision document likely to be launched in September or October this year," Lyngdoh said.
