Victory for Hindi English boys

Dibrugarh, June 5: Hindi English High School, Tinsukia, walked away with the Late Tepuram Buragohain and Puneswari Devi Buragohain Memorial Tinsukia district under-14 inter-school cricket title, defeating Hindusthani Vidyalaya by 69 runs at Tinsukia District Sports Association ground today.

Winning the toss, Hindi English School batted first, piling up 134 for nine in the stipulated 25 overs. Hindusthani Vidyalaya caved in despite being 59 for four in eight overs at one stage. The last six batsmen could only add six runs and the innings folded up for 65 in 14 overs.

Chandan Sarma was adjudged Man of the Match, and Vicky Shah the bowler of the tournament with a haul of 14 wickets. Sonu Singh of A-New High School was named best batsman with 162 runs, including two half-centuries. Yuvraj Sarma of A-New High School became the player of the meet with 81 runs and 14 wickets. Ranjan Sarma of Hindi English School was given a special prize for most promising player. A-New High School also bagged the Fair Play trophy.

Brojen Gohain, vice-president of the Assam Cricket Association and Rajen Baruah, chairman of the Tinsukia Development Authority, gave away the prizes.

The meet was organised by the TDSA.
