Venue ready for literary conference - Udalguri to host Bodo Sahitya Sabha meet from Jan. 19

Kokrajhar, Jan. 16: Bwiguma Fwthar, the main venue of the 50th annual conference of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (Boro Thunali Afad) is nearly ready for the conference, scheduled for January 19 to January 22 in Udalguri town.

All the 19 sub-committees have been hard at work to make the literary meet a success.

The sub-committee said the venue had special 226 stalls for the government, non-government, self-help groups and NGOs — both local and from other parts of the state.

Phorun Ch. Basumatary, the convenor of the exhibition sub-committee, said apart from the special exhibition inside the venue, there would be two open market sheds on either side of the road.

The food sub-committee has completed all preparations to feed the guests and delegates in four dining halls which are divided into delegates and observers’ section, volunteers’ section, guests’ section along with a vegetarian section.

The finance sub-committee is working hard to meet the demands of the various sub-committees.

The souvenir sub-committee has collected write-ups in six languages — Bodo, Assamese, Nepali, Bengali, Santhali and English.

The souvenir, Basiram Jwhlaw, will be of 400 colourful pages, named after a warrior of the community from history.

The main pandal, named after former BSS president Doleswar Boro, can accommodate more than 10,000 spectators at a time while the Bihuram Boro memorial delegate hall can accommodate 1,500 delegates and 500 observers of the annual conference.

The publicity sub-committee is ready to highlight the main proceedings of the various events via print and electronic media and the Internet.

The volunteers’ sub-committee is ready with nearly 800 volunteers.

The conference will comprise a traditional fashion show, competitions among the Bodo boys and girls, above 18 years of age, and artistes from neighbouring Nepal will enthral spectators with their performance.

Abhijeet Bhattacharjee of Bollywood fame, Voice of India Debojit Saha, SaReGaMaPa singer Keka Ghoshal and anchor Shakil Ansari along with Bodoland artistes like Gautam, Bigrai and Sulekha will enthral thousands of spectators on January 22. The reception committee has prohibited wine and other intoxicating items at the venue.
