Guwahati: A teenager was found dead in her room at a private hostel here on Thursday afternoon.

Puja Das, 18, of Rangagara ghat at Bokakhat in Golaghat district, was found dead in her room at a girls' hostel in Happy Villa in Uzan Bazar in the central part of the city.

Officer-in-charge of Latasil police station, Sunil Kalita, said, "The girl was found hanging in her room around 2.30pm. She was a student of Frankfinn Institute of Air Hostess Training in the city. Prima facie it seems to be a suicide case. But we have not been able to find any suicide note or ascertain the motive behind her death."

According to Kalita, the owner of the hostel said that after returning from class she had lunch and then went to her room.

"After a while, her roommate came and found her hanging in the room. Other boarders and the hostel management said Puja did not show any signs of mental disturbance or in distress. We have lodged an unnatural death case and sent the body for post-mortem. No person has been detained so far but investigation is under way," Kalita said.
