Guwahati: Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi for attacking the Narendra Modi government over the Rafale deal, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Saturday said the Congress president, on bail in the National Herald scam, had no right to point a finger at others.

"He is on bail in the National Herald case for prima facie committing fraud and criminal conspiracy. How can he make allegations of corruption against other persons?" Swamy said.

He accused the Congress of making baseless allegations on the Rafale deal. "Instead of only making allegations, why do they not file a private complaint as I did in the National Herald scam and the Aircel-Maxis case? They cannot do that because they do not have any evidence," he said.

On the Congress's demand for a joint parliamentary committee on the Rafale deal, Swamy said JPC cannot be set up on the basis of allegations.

The Congress has been demanding a JPC to go into the Rafale deal. It questioned the government on why was it shying away from ordering a JPC probe if everything was above board. Swamy said there was no parallel between the Bofors scandal and the Rafale deal as there was "ample evidence of wrongdoings" in case of the former.

Swamy was here for an interactive session with the students of Royal Global University and to address a symposium organised by Laghu Udyog Bharat on Saturday.

During his interaction with the students, the BJP leader said the cost of education in India and the US may differ but the quality remains superior in India with ample proof of Indians holding top posts in Google, Microsoft and other top companies.

On demonetisation, he said it was implemented without preparation. He said it could have been dealt in a better way by printing Rs 100 notes six times more than what was released to avoid the long queues in front of ATMs. He also called for abolition of income tax and bringing down the rate of interest for industries.

On the ongoing NRC update in the state, Swamy said whoever is not an Indian citizen has to be detected and deported. He, however, advocated citizenship for Hindu Bangladeshis who came to India due to religious persecution.
