Kokrajhar, June 4: The All Adivasi Student Association of Assam (AASAA) and the All Santali Students Union (ASSU) alleged anomalies in the distribution of grant, including distribution of 360 bicycles meant for tea tribes and ex-tea tribe students, and demanded an inquiry into it.

Addressing the media at Kokrajhar Press Club today, the two students unions of the community said there had been gross anomalies in the distribution of bicycles meant for the tea tribes and ex-tea tribe students and self-help groups under Kokrajhar subdivision.

“The bicycles meant for distribution to tea tribes and ex-tea tribe students and self-help groups under Kokrajhar subdivision were surprisingly sent back and the department could not give proper reply,” said president of the Santali students’ union Kain Kumar Hembrum and AASAA vice-president Stefen Lakra in a joint statement.

The union said it had approached the officials, including Kokrajhar deputy commissioner Donald Gilfellon, who is also the chairman of the committee of the welfare board, but alleged they were trying to hush up the issue and blaming each other.
