Guwahati, Sept. 24: Srimanta Sankar Academy and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara (KVK), today marched into the semifinals of the 1st Dharmendra Sarma inter-school (under-16) cricket tournament, under way at Dispur ground here.
Sankar Academy defeated Paramount High School by 80 runs while KVK edged past Delhi Public School by 10 runs in the two quarterfinals today.
Sankar Academy batted first and piled up 165 for five in the stipulated 20 overs. Chasing the challenging target, Paramount’s boys were bundled out for 85 in 15.4 overs.
Rahul Hazarika, who topscored for Sankar Academy with 41 runs, was named Man of the Match.
In the other match, KVK posted 158 for six but the DPS boys were all out for 148.
Angelica High School entered the semifinals, defeating Little Flower High School by 21 runs in the first quarter-final on Saturday.
Put to bat first, Angelica boys scored 134 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs.
Chasing it, the Little Flower boys were bundled out for 113 in 17.3 overs.
South Point School yesterday made it to the semifinals, defeating Kendriya Vidyalaya, Borjhar, by eight wickets in the second quarterfinal.
Electing to bat first, KV, Borjhar, were all out for 93 in 19.3 overs and the South Point boys reached the target in 11 overs, losing only two wickets.
There will be no match tomorrow.
The semifinals between Angelica and Sankar Academy and South Point and KVK will be played on Wednesday.
Karateka in team
Karateka L. Sanjib has been included in the Indian squad for the 5th (WKF) Junior and Cadet Karate Championship 2007, to be held in Turkey from October 19 to 21, reports our Imphal correspondent.
With his inclusion in the squad, Sanjib became the first Manipuri to be headed for a World Karate Championship.
Sanjib, along with the rest of the 28-member Indian team, will undergo seven days’ training in Mumbai before leaving for Turkey.
A coach from the state, Sensei Kiran Kumar Thangjam, will accompany as team coach, said a source in the All India Karate-Do Federation.
