July 3: The city skies are rocking, with more and more airlines starting their operation to the gateway to the Northeast.
The latest brand name to enter the aviation sector in the region is SpiceJet. The airline is all set to start its operations between Delhi and Guwahati from July 10.
Making its arrival into the region official, SpiceJet’s vice-president (marketing and planning), Sanjay Kumar, said: “We are proud to commence our operations from Guwahati ? the gateway to the Northeast. Once we make our presence felt in the city, we will expand the services to other parts of the region.”
“Every month since our launch in the country, SpiceJet has had the highest load-factor among other airlines of the country. This shows the tremendous response we are receiving from our trusted clients. I am sure SpiceJet will become the favourite option for flying for the people of the region.”
With its claim of lowest fares, best on-time performance and the lowest number of cancellations, the airline will initially operate the Guwahati-Delhi flights thrice a week ? Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The airline will start daily flights on the route from October.
Moreover, from October, SpiceJet will also connect the city with Calcutta.
The airline is also planning connect all the current major destinations of the SpiceJet network with the city by early next year.
SpiceJet has fixed a special launch fare of Rs 2,899 to Delhi as an introductory offer.
Speaking about the motive behind starting SpiceJet operations in the city, Kumar said, “The aviation sector in the Northeast has not been fully tapped yet. Our survey indicates that a big untapped market lies in the region. Guwahati is just our entry point. We will expand our presence into the entire region.”
SpiceJet had only two aircraft when it started its operations between Delhi and Ahmedabad on May 23 last year. However, it has grown much stronger in a short span of time. The airline now has six aircraft and operates 49 daily flights to 11 destinations ? Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Goa, Pune, Bangalore, Calcutta, Jammu, Srinagar, Chennai and Hyderabad.
