Agartala: A team of 40 Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel, headed by a deputy-inspector general of the elite security agency, landed here on Wednesday to supervise security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on Friday.
Modi is slated to join the swearing-in ceremony of all the newly elected BJP legislators at the Assam Rifles ground. Party president Amit Shah and chief ministers of all the 19 BJP-ruled states were invited to attend the ceremony, BJP state president and chief minister-designate Biplab Kumar Deb told the media.
District magistrate (West Tripura), Milind Ramteke, said preparations had started at the Assam Rifles ground. Security will be deployed as per SPG protocol.
The inspector-general of police (law and order), K.V. Sreejesh, said central security personnel, Tripura police and Tripura State Rifles personnel would be deployed for security arrangements on the day of Modi's visit.
Apart from regular deployment of the Central Armed Paramilitary Force (CAPF), nearly 41 companies of central forces, who came on poll duty are still stationed in Tripura.
"We have sufficient forces to avoid any untoward incident," Sreejesh said.
The Assam Rifles ground was bustling with activity on Wednesday afternoon with people seen erecting bamboo fences besides entry and exit gates and other makeshift infrastructure which will be in place for Modi's visit.
