2003 award for lifetime achievement

Imphal: The Union ministry of sports has invited applications from eligible sportspersons for the Dhyan Chand Award for lifetime achievement in sports for the year 2003. The applicants should have excellent performance in national or international meets for three years or more, and continue to contribute towards promotion of sports in his or her capacity even after retirement. Persons and NGOs, who have contributed towards promotion of sports over a period of 20 years or more, are also eligible for the award. Applicants should collect the details for the award and submit the forms with the directorate of sports by May 26.

First league win

Guwahati: Assam won their first super-six league match in the sub-junior national handball championship at Ranikhat in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Assam beat Maharashtra 21-19. On Thursday, Assam beat Uttaranchal and Jammu and Kashmir to make it to the super-six round.

Nationals team

Imphal: The Manipur Amateur Baseball Association has named a 17-member team and three officials to represent the state in the 14th sub-junior national baseball championship in Himachal Pradesh from May 24 to 28. The team comprises S. Naocha, T. Disesh, R.K. Santosh, T. Santhoi, S. John, L. Bungcha, T. Ranjit, S. Dayananda, C. Jin, C. Jinen, M. Deepak, C. Jemson, Sudhirkumar, R.K. Boynao, W. prakash, M. Robert, C. Manish. Coaches: W. Lokeshwor and A. Banu Chanu. Manager: S Senehlata Chanu.

Six for camp

Guwahati: Six Assam women pugilists have been invited to a monthlong advanced coaching camp at Jamshedpur from June 1. The invited boxers include Pranamika Bora, Jeuti Khaklari, Dipika Das, Jennifer Denial, Jahnabi Gogoi and Kalpana Choudhury.
