Summer camp in Jorhat
Guwahati: The Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA) will organise a 15-day district-level cricket summer coaching camp, under the initiative of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), in the Upper Assam town from July 4. The cricket secretary of the Jorhat association, Mohd Khaleque, said five players from every JDSA-affiliated school have been invited to the camp, besides last year’s under-15, under-17 and under-19 players from the district. Khaleque, who is also an ACA assistant secretary, said the camp would be conducted by coach Sushanta Chakravarty of Dibrugarh at the Jorhat Government Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School’s indoor facility. Coach Chakravarty has been specially deputed by the ACA for the training programme in the town.Staff protest
Guwahati: Employees of the Assam Board of Sports on Wednesday wore black badges as a mark of protest against the authorities’ failure to revise their salaries for almost a decade. The employees demanded regularisation of service for some of their senior colleagues and immediate release of pay for 11 months dating back to 1999-2000 in instalments. The board’s officer on special duty Rajib Prakash Baruah said the protest was unfortunate after the employees union had agreed on Tuesday to withdraw the demonstration.Judo trial
Dibrugarh: A 15-day advanced judo training camp will be held at Dibrugarh district gymnasium from July 2 for the state players to prepare them for the 2005 National Games. Deben Mairangdam from Manipur will be the chief coach during the camp. Dibrugarh: The 10th Tinsukia district chess championship will be held at Durgabari Sishu School from July 2. The Dibru Chess Academy will also hold the Dibrugarh district chess championship from July 3 to 6 at the Sishu Niketan School here.
