Jorhat, March 17: Six persons, including two women and a juvenile, have been apprehended from different parts of the city last night in connection with the abduction of city businessman Kailash Agarwalla Ginoria.
Ginoria, 53, who had gone missing since March 10 evening has been untraced ever since he had taken his son on a motorbike (AS-06-A-0164) from his shop on JPR Road and had dropped him at another shop on Mithapukhuri Road.
Ginoria’s residence is on BG Road in New Balibat.
Police sources said Ginoria’s family lodged a missing complaint the next day.
After several phone calls by the abductors to the family members from Ginoria’s mobile phone till March 13 demanding ransom of Rs 20 lakh, a case (No. 233/12)of kidnapping was registered under Sections 365 and 387 of the IPC. After March 13, Ginoria’s mobile phone was found to be switched off. Sources said Ginoria fell into a trap laid by a woman who had allegedly called him to some place.
The police have identified the woman as Panchi Gogoi, alias Ponkhi, alias Priyanka Dutta of Atiliagaon who is a key suspect in the case. Efforts are on to apprehend her. She was not found when the police raided her house last night.
The police suspect Panchi to be a member of a gang operating in Upper Assam that lures men using “attractive women” and later blackmailed them to extort money.
Jorhat superintendent of police Sanjukta Parasor said investigations were on to rescue the abducted person. She said the police had got some leads and searches were on in different areas here and also outside the district.
