
Assam remembered its cultural icon and freedom fighter Jyoti Prasad Agarwala on Shilpi Divas, observed on Saturday to mark his death anniversary. Agarwala was the pioneer of filmmaking in the state and made the first Assamese film Joymoti in 1930.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi honoured singer Dwipen Barua and lyricist Kirti Kamal Bhuyan with the Shilpi Bota 2015 award at a function in Guwahati.
Agarwala was also remembered at his ancestral home at Poki in Tezpur, with a function organised by the Asam Sahitya Sabha.
