Shanti Gogoi's book released

Former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Nagen Saikia on Saturday unveiled Huworonir Rongin Paat, an autography by eminent social worker Shanti Gogoi, at a programme at Hotel Garden Treat here. Shanti Gogoi is the mother of Justice Ranjan Gogoi of the Supreme Court.

Dibrugarh: Former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Nagen Saikia on Saturday unveiled Huworonir Rongin Paat, an autography by eminent social worker Shanti Gogoi, at a programme at Hotel Garden Treat here. Shanti Gogoi is the mother of Justice Ranjan Gogoi of the Supreme Court.

Justice Gogoi was present at the book release event.

He will assume charge as Chief Justice of India on October 3.

Shanti Gogoi is a well known social worker here. She is the wife of former Assam chief minister Keshab Chandra Gogoi and the founder-president of Socio-Educational Welfare Association, an NGO.

She expressed gratitude to retired professor of Dibrugarh UniversityAnanda Buromodoi for encouraging her to write the autography.

Saikia, praising the literary work of Shanti Gogoi, said the book "is a collection of sweet memories and true experiences."

Dr Narayan Upadhaya of Assam Medical College and Hospital spoke about the contribution of Shanti Gogoi towards society.

The family event was attended by relatives, educationists, senior citizens, social activists and well-wishers. Former Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor Alak Kumar Buragohain and Dr Upaddhyay shared the dais with Saikia.

Apart from the felicitation he was accorded by the Dibrugarh Bar Association at Mohanbari airport, it was a quite homecoming for Justice Gogoi, returning home after almost a year but for the first time since his appointment as the next CJI was cleared by the President on Thursday.

He stayed at his family house at KC Gogoi Road in the Kodomoni area and will leave for Delhi on Sunday afternoon.
