Hailakandi, March 16: Of a total of 463 polling booths in the three Assembly constituencies in Hailakandi, the district administration has identified 182 and 80 polling booths as hyper-sensitive and sensitive respectively.

Hailakandi deputy commissioner Rajesh Prasad said ?unprecedented security measures? would be adopted in Katlicherra, Algapur and Hailakandi constituencies to curb all poll-related violence.

In these constituencies, a record number of repolls had to be held last time over complaints of booth capturing and rigging. Prasad said half a platoon of security personnel would be posted in every booth. For this, the administration has sought 32 companies of paramilitary forces.

District police chief Jeevan Chandra Sharma said in order to curb pre and post-poll violence, 189 people ? of a total of 902 who have been chargesheeted and convicted for various crimes ? have been arrested. A list of rowdy elements and miscreants has been prepared.

Hailakandi electoral officer Jayanta Bora said the names of 67 persons, against whom non-bailable warrants have been issued and who are absconding for the past six months, have been deleted from the voters? list.

She said 747 polling centres would be set up in five constituencies in Tezpur subdivision. Of these, 80 polling centres have been identified as hypersensitive while 130 were sensitive.

These five constituencies have been divided into 109 sectors under 26 zones. A total of 3,415 personnel will be deployed during the election process in the subdivision. Altogether 875 electronic voting machines will be utilised along with 703 vehicles in Tezpur subdivision.
