Kokrajhar, April 18: The much-delayed 750MW Bongaigaon thermal power project at Salakati in Kokrajhar will be commissioned next month.
Addressing reporters at a meet on "vendor enlistment" at Salakati, the group's general manager, NTPC, Bongaigaon, Utpal Chakrabarti, said, "The synchronisation of the first unit of the 250x3 (750MW) of the plant with Power Grid will be done by next month and the plant will be commercially viable within seven-eight months."
He said the second unit, of the same capacity, would be commissioned in 14-16 months of the commission of the first unit.
"We want to involve each and every potential vendor/contractor. After enlistment, all future tenders of NTPC plant will be issued to enlisted vendors only. We want our vendors and contractors to enlist on the website and participate in tenders across the power plants," he said, adding, "This way, the vendors can increase their business opportunities from across the NTPC power plants."
As of now, each of the power plants is placing orders with local vendors.
"The NTPC has developed a website - www.vendor.ntpc.co.in - exclusively for enlistment. The enlistment process is entirely online and there is no participation fee. Once enlisted, parties will get a tender notice from all power plants of NTPC. This will help all vendors/contractors to expand their business and NTPC will get a large number of prospective bidders," he said.
The project will use coal from Makum coalmines at Margherita of Assam and eastern coalfields spread over Bengal and Jharkhand.
