Nagaon, May 2: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today arrived in central Assam's Hojai district for a four-day programme at Gitashram.

Bhagwat's arrival appeared to be a significant development for the BJP leadership as this is the first time the leader has come# to the state after the formation of the BJP government.

Railway minister Rajen Gohain and Hojai legislator Siladitya Deb are the two prominent party leaders who are camping in Hojai since yesterday. State BJP heavyweights will meet Bhagwat tomorrow.

According to schedule, Bhagwat will address 355 RSS trainees on four separate sessions, once a day till May 5, beginning today. Within that time, Bhagwat will also address the trainers and the experts.

Bhagwat, who landed in Guwahati this afternoon, reached Hojai at 6pm today. He will leave the central Assam district on May 6.

"This is a training which is organised once a year. For the Northeast region the camp is being arranged in Hojai's Gitashram and this is going on for the last 20 years," a source said.

The 39-year-old Gitashram is known as the RSS base. Bhagawat visits the site once a year and addresses the trainees every time.

"Bhagwat will not address any rally here. We should rather call it as a conclave of some of the Northeast leaders of the organisation," said Deb.

"The RSS organises its training round the year in different parts of the Northeast. It is a 20-day training programme and those who are interested are called to Hojai. Bhagwat supervises the training. Unfortunately, he was absent last year," an RSS source said.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his cabinet colleagues were scheduled to come to Hojai tomorrow, but it was postponed to May 5.

"We are meeting Bhagwat in Gitashram tomorrow. The chief minister's programme was scheduled on Wednesday, but it was postponed till May 5 for unavoidable reasons," said Nagaon legislator Rupak Sarma.

Hojai administration has tightened security in the district in view of Bhagwat's visit.
