The upper primary school at Angu village in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang district celebrated its golden jubilee with fanfare and pomp on Monday.

Attending the occasion as chief guest, minister of state of the ministry of youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju said it was a historic occasion as the school had completed 50 years with humble beginnings in a thatched house in 1969. He congratulated the teachers and alumni for their contribution towards the institution’s growth. He specially lauded Rabindra Nath Roy, the first teacher of the school.

Rijiju also inaugurated the newly constructed school building and unveiled a souvenir to mark the occasion.

He said he would look into memorandum pertaining to construction of a mini stadium at the school, construction of 25-bed hostel for boys and girls, a link road from the village to Doke and construction of a multipurpose community centre at Angu.

State education minister Taba Tedir inaugurated a new playground of the school. State industry, textile and handicrafts minister Tumke Bagra said the government had opened an organic pineapple farm on five hectares of land in the village and urged farmers to avail of the facility.
