Radial in last four - Denis Shyamal declared the Man of the Match

Dibrugarh, Feb. 26: Radial Club, Nagaon defeated Junior Friends Club, Sivasagar by 42 runs to enter the semifinals of the sixth Rafiur Rahman All-Assam Invitation Prize-Money Cricket Tournament in the third quarterfinal match played at the Chowkidinghee playground here today.

In the 35-overs-a-side match, the Nagaon club won the toss and elected to bat. The team scored 230 for the loss of six wickets with Denis Shyamal making 60 runs from 45 deliveries. His innings included one four and six sixes.

Opener Kaushik Paul made a solid 51 off 68 deliveries with two fours, while Sudipto Razzak chipped in with a cameoof 37 in 18 deliveries. His innings included one four and four sixes.

Radial Club, which had come to Dibrugarh for the first time, impressed the spectators with their good running between the wicket and strong bating display.

For Sivasagar, Rofiquiddin Ahmed picked up three wickets giving away 54 runs.

In reply, Sivasagar could manage only 188 in 35 overs losing eight wickets. Imtazur Rahman was the top scorer with 38 in 18 deliveries. He hit four fours and two sixes. Rofiquiddin Ahmed and Somim Ahmed chipped in with 25 runs each.

For Nagaon, Amit Sinha picked up three wickets for 37 while Rinku Ahmed and Tridip Mazumdar scalped two wickets each. Denis Shyamal was declared the Man of the Match. The tournament has generated good public response so far, with a good number of spectators turning up everyday.

“We would like to thank the district administration for opening up the Chowkidingee playground for such sporting events,” Niranjan Bora, the organising secretary of the meet, said. Tomorrow, Tinsukia Railways will take on Radial Club, Nagaon, in the first semifinal at the same venue. Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre will face Duliajan Cricket Academy on Thursday in the fourth quarterfinal. The second semifinal will be played on Friday. The final is scheduled for Saturday.

Lamyanba win

Lamyanba Pakhang Polo Club (A) defeated Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club (C) by 11-0 goals to enter to the semifinal of the 25th All Manipur Polo Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today, says our sports correspondent from Imphal.

Lamyanba Pakhang Polo Club (A) will now meet Kangchup Road Youth and Physical Sporting Association Polo teams while Khurai Polo Club will take on Tekcham Polo Club (A) in the semifinal tomorrow. It was easier for the Lamayanba Pakhang team as Chingkhei Hunba had no answer to the volley of goals scored by the opponent. Ksh. Shantikumar, M. Jawan and N. Phillip scored a goal each in the first chukker, while Jawan added another goal in the second chukker to lead the team by 4-0.

In the third chukker, L. Tolonkhomba, Shantikumar and Jawan consolidated their scores, adding a goal each and in the last chukker, Tolonkhomba along with Ch. Basanta and Ch. Booster, wrapped up the match with a goal each for the 11-0 win.
