Imphal, May 5: Dadra and Nagar Haveli Hockey Association humiliated Hockey Puducherry 18-0 in the first round encounter of the sixth Hockey India Sub-Junior Men's National Championship for B Division at Khuman Lampak hockey stadium here today.
In the one-sided match, Lokesh Vats and Gurbinder Singh scored a double brace each while teammates Neeraj Kumar Yadav, Uttam Singh and Gopal struck two goals each and Mohammed Sultan, skipper Sanjay Chaturvedi, Sartaj Alam and Arvind Yadav netted a goal apiece for the massive victory.
In another match, Hockey Bhopal got the better of Bengal Hockey Association 3-2. The evenly poised match had a barren first half.
Hockey Bhopal took the lead in the second half with Imad Uddin, Rashid Mohammad and Sourabh Pasine scoring a goal each. Bengal Hockey Association rallied with Suraj Yadav, who smashed home two goals, but it was not enough.
In other matches of the day, Vidarbha Hockey Association beat Hockey Gujarat 6-4 and Mumbai Hockey Association Limited held Hockey Uttarkhand to a 2-2 draw. In the match between Hockey Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir, the latter got a walkover with a benefit of 5-0 goals, (according to the rules of the hockey association) as the former failed to make it to the venue on time.
Hockey Madhya Pradesh also got a walkover against Hockey Madhya Bharat with a benefit of 5-0 goals.
Altogether 22 teams are participating in the tournament. In A Division , 16 teams, including hosts Manipur, are participating. The meet will begin on May 14.
