Pragyan bags triple crowns

Guwahati, July 30: Nagaon lad Pragyan Jyoti Gogoi annexed triple crowns in the 3rd All Assam Super Ranking Badminton Tournament at the Kanaklata indoor stadium here late yesterday.

Gogoi won the under-15 boys’ singles and the under-13 and under-15 boys’ doubles titles. He defeated Abhinab Gogoi of Tinsukia 22-20, 21-16 for the singles title. He, however, lost the under-13 boys’ singles title to Orijit Chaliha of Guwahati. Chaliha won 24-22, 21-23, 22-20.

In the under-13 doubles, Gogoi partnered Chaliha to beat the tandem of Abhisekh Bora of Digboi and Jayraj Pegu of Dhemaji 21-6, 23-21 and in the under-15 doubles final, Gogoi’s partnership with another Nagaon boy Rajshekar Das prevailed over the Guwahati duo of Saurav Das and Farhaz Hussain 21-15, 21-16.

Sivasagar girl Kaberi Phukan also won double crowns bagging the women’s singles and doubles titles. She beat Bornali Konwar of Dibrugarh 21-8, 21-6 for the singles titles and partnered Konwar to get the better of Abantika Deka (Dibrugarh) and Rimi Hazarika (Guwahati) 14-21, 23-21, 21-5 for the doubles title. Konwar won the under-19 girls’ title defeating Harshita Chaliha of Guwahati 21-10, 21-17. Rana Kr Baruah of Sivasagar lifted the boys’ title in the same age group beating Vishal Garg of Jorhat 21-19, 19-21, 22-20.

Sahil Nawaz (Guwahati) and Rana Baruah (Sivasagar) won the under-19 boys’ doubles outplaying Nagaon boys Krisanga and Miftuhul Haque 23-25, 21-12, 21-18. Hirak Jyoti Neog of Dibrugarh won the men’s singles title beating Angshuman Hazarika of Guwahati 21-15, 21-13 but missed the doubles title partnering another Dibrugarh boy Dibya Borah. Sivasagar duo of Anjan Buragohain and Ranjan Buragohain won the title with 22-20, 18-21, 21-18 points over Neog and Borah.

Rishav Sharma of Guwahati lifted the under-17 boys’ singles title beating Kashyab Neog of Tinsukia 21-18, 21-14, but lost the doubles crown in partnership with another Guwahati boy Deepjyoti Dutta to the tandem of Tridip Boro (Dibrugarh) and Kashyap Neog who won 21-14, 21-12.

Ashmita Chaliha of Guwahati won the under-15 girls’ singles defeating Meghna Borbora of Dibrugarh 24-22, 21-15 but lost to Ningshi Block Hazarika of Dibrugarh 17-21, 18-21 in the under-17 singles. Chimran Kalita of Guwahati came back from behind to beat Maini Baruah of Sivasagar 11-21, 21-11, 21-15 for the under-13 girls’ singles crown.

Ankita Gogoi (Tinsukia) and Apurba Boro (Guwahati) beat Ankita Rajkhowa of Guwahati and Manali Bora of Golaghat 21-16, 21-13 for the under-15 girls’ doubles title. Ayad Rashid of Guwahati and Debahuti Lahon of Nazira won the under-10 boys’ and girls’ titles respectively. Ayad defeated Ayan Rashid 21-17, 21-19 and Debahuti defeated Shibangi Baishya of Golaghat 21-11, 21-19 in the finals.
