Oil India Duliajan emerge champs

Oil India FC, Duliajan, lifted the seventh Bodousa Cup Football Tournament, organised by Bodousa Sports Club, beating North Eastern Re-organisation and Cultural Association, Imphal 2-1, in the final at Kachujan field in Tinsukia yesterday.

Dibrugarh, Aug. 10: Oil India FC, Duliajan, lifted the seventh Bodousa Cup Football Tournament, organised by Bodousa Sports Club, beating North Eastern Re-organisation and Cultural Association, Imphal 2-1, in the final at Kachujan field in Tinsukia yesterday.

Oil India gained the lead as early as in the third minute through Mintu Boro. F. Wary's shot from the left flank found Boro inside the box and his flick of the head found the net with ease. Ronald Singh equalised for Neroca in the 45th minute. The match-winning goal was scored by Raju Konwar in the 77th minute.

Oil India had entered the final overcoming Assam Rifles, Shillong 12-11 in sudden death in the semi-finals on Friday. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time and the tie-breakers, too, could not break the deadlock.

Neroca crushed hosts Bodousa Sports Club, Tinsukia 7-1 in the other semi-final on Thursday. Mintu Boro of Oil India was adjudged the best player of the match while Nabin Rabha of Oil India was named the best player of the tournament.

Roshan Singh of Neroca was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament while Hemanta Garh of United FC, Makum, emerged the highest scorer of the tournament. The winning team went home richer by Rs 1 lakh along with the trophy while the runners-up got Rs 50,000 and the trophy.

"We are happy with the victory because it is a major tournament to start the season with a win. Many good teams have participated in the tournament and we have beaten all,'' said Jitu Chetri, manager of Oil India FC.
