Jorhat, Oct. 31: Oil India Football Club, Duliajan, annexed the title of the ATPA Shield football tournament, defeating Assam Rifles, Tezpur, 3-1 at Jorhat Stadium here today.
The experienced Oil India men dominated throughout and found the lead in the 28th minute through midfielder Mintu Boro who made no mistake in netting a penalty kick.
The spot kick was awarded for a fault by Assam Rifles defenders with Oil India’s Nigerian recruit Taras Tecmo Plek inside the box.
Three minutes into the second half, Tarash enhanced the lead with another goal. The Nigerian played a magnificent game to finish with a left footer off a pass from the right flank near the goal post.
In the 76th minute, M. Chetry reduced the margin for Assam Rifles.
However, Nigerian Kehindi Adris scored for Oil India in the 82nd minute to make it 3-1.
The Tezpur side was reduced to a 10-man side when M. Kamei was booked with a red card for double yellows.
F. Wary of Oil India was named Best Player and the fair play trophy went to SAI SC, Guwahati.
Jorhat MLA Rana Goswami gave away the shield to the winners while ATPA chairman Raj Barooah presented the runners-up trophy.
