Jorhat, Nov. 2: Oil India FC defeated Green Valley 2-0 in the final of the ATPA Shield football tournament played at Jorhat Stadium here this afternoon.
Striker Stephen and midfielder H.L. Routa scored the goals before a gathering of 2,000 fans.
Oil India were in an attacking mode right from the start and in the 36th minute of play, its efforts yielded results when Stephen sent the ball straight to the net from outside the penalty area.
The Oil India team then stepped up its pace and its efforts were rewarded in the 41st minute when a free kick was given by referee Ohiduz Rahman (Nagaon) after a Green Valley foul.
Routa’s powerful shot hit the nets after hitting the goal bar.
The second half was goalless. Routa was awarded the Best Player of the Tournament and bagged the Tulan Saikia Memorial Trophy.
The Fair Play award went to Morning Star Club of Diphu, who were presented with the Puneshwar Kachari Trophy. H. Hoakip of Assam Rifles was named Highest Scorer.
