Alumni reunion
An alumni reunion was held on July 7 at the Assam Institute of Management. Different activities, achievements and future plans of the institute were discussed on the occasion.
Director of the institute Shantikam Hazarika said it is the alumni which promotes an institute as a brand. He spoke about the challenges the institute is facing due to internal and external environmental changes.
Hazarika urged the alumni to regularly inform the institute about the present skill requirements of the industries so that the faculty members could tune the syllabus and teaching methodology to satisfy these needs.
Migam K.K. Pegoo, sales manager of Indian Oil Corporation (Assam oil division), emphasised the need to promote the institute as a brand and expressed satisfaction on the institute’s initiative to publish AIMULET, the institute’s quarterly magazine.
Pegoo said the institute could take advantage of the presence of major oil public sector undertakings in the state to generate funds.
Dipankar Bhattacharjee of Berger Paints stressed that the institute should try to make its presence felt at the national level and attract applicants from states other than the Northeast.
Jitendra Ashit Chutia, chief executive officer of Purvy Broadcasts Pvt Ltd, spoke about the increasing demand of management professionals in the FM radio segment and stressed on the inclusion of commercial aspects of FM radio channels in the management course curriculum of the institute.
Both Hazarika and Kalita urged the alumni to visit the website of the institute and suggest changes. They requested the alumni in organisations outside the Northeast to help the students land jobs by providing requisite information to the institute about vacancies and the people to contact.
The committee has decided to organise another alumni meet in December.
Exhibition
A two-day book exhibition-cum-faculty development workshop was organised by ICFAI National College at Prag Continental on July 10 and July 11. The book exhibition was organised by academician Dilip Kumar Baruah, who emphasised the needfor quality management in education, the role of ICFAI and the faculty exchange programme.
R. Prasad, director of ICFAI National College, inaugurated the faculty development workshop. He spoke on resilience of attitude skills and knowledge that every faculty member must become professionally competent and a good corporate citizen.
Training
A five-day in-service training programme in English language teaching for upper primary level teachers of English of Sonitpur district concluded on July 13. Altogether 51 teachers of the district attended the programme.The programme was organised by the English Language Teaching Institute in association with Tezpur District ME Teachers’ Association at Shiksha Bhavan, Tezpur.
