Guwahati, June 2: Unseeded Nagaland boys caused a few more upsets on the second day of the AITA Super Series (under-14) tennis tournament under way at the Chachal Tennis Club here today.
In the under-14 boys’ singles, unseeded Gaigeng Pamei upset fifth seed Kuwar Singh Tater of Assam 6-4, 6-1.
Iciraibe Salie shocked eighth seed Richie Agarwal of West Bengal 6-1, 6-3 to make it to the quarter-finals this morning.
Others who have entered the quarter-finals include top seed S.D. Prajwal Dev (Karnataka), second seed Shashank Nautiyal (Delhi), sixth seed Arindam Dutta (Haryana) and seventh seed Dhir Gala (Maharashtra).
In the girls’ singles, all the home state girls — Protiksha Sarma, Himarani Basumatary, Sanghamitra Thakur, Soumaiya Begum and Amrita Nath — bowed out from the pre-quarterfinals today.
Top seed Ojasvinee Singh (Madhya Pradesh), third seed Bhavani Balakumar (Tamil Nadu), fourth seed Prithika Rani (Tamil Nadu), fifth seed Malini Sinha (Uttar Pradesh), sixth seed Sumeera Kamil (Delhi) and seventh seed Bhaviya Wadhawah (Chandigarh) were joined by unseeded Seeulee Upadhyaya (Orissa) and C.S. Praneetha (Tamil Nadu) in the quarter-finals.
The singles quarter-finals and doubles semi-finals will be played tomorrow.
