‘A’ DiVISION cricket

Guwahati, March 11: Nabajyoti Club today handed a seven-wicket defeat to Riverine Club in a premininary round match of the Madhab Ram Bora “A” Division cricket meet, organised by the Guwahati Sports Association at the Nehru Stadium here.

Chasing 175 in 30 overs, Nabajyoti rode Jivanjit Rajkhowa’s 52 off 38 balls and Sadek Imran Choudhury’s 37 off 29 balls to reach their target in 28.2 overs for three wickets. Jyotirmoy Saikia made 37 off 57 balls.

Binay Rawat’s 56 off 51 balls and Navazeet Kaushik’s 35 off 61 balls took Riverine to a healthy total despite some tight bowling by Sadek, Tridip Kalita and Nirbhoy Singh. All of them claimed three wickets apiece.

Tomorrow, Shantipur AC will meet Guwahati Town Club.

Hockey trials: The Air-India National Hockey Academy will hold a three-day selection trials at the Dhyanchand hockey stadium in New Delhi, beginning April 9, for enrolling new trainees at its centre.

Players who have passed the HSLC examination and are born on or after January 1, 1986, are elible for the trials. Three slots are reserved for players from Assam.
