Feb. 18: The Assam Engineering College (AEC) is all set to organise its much-awaited annual event Pyrokinesis-07, a technical-cum-cultural fiesta on its Jalukbari campus.
The three-day festival will begin on Saturday.
Sources in the organising committee said the city-based event management group, Rhythm House, has designed the fourth edition of the festival. With programmes ranging from a live performance by Bollywood hot favourite KK and his band to a fashion show by designer Meghana Rai Medhi, the stage at the tech school is all set to sizzle.
“This time the festival will be a mega event with a good dose of music and fashion. Besides, children from Don Bosco orphanage will showcase their talent at a cultural show. Thus the festival is quite eclectic in its approach and concept,” said Sanjay Rana, convenor of the Pyrokinesis-07 committee.
“We expect an audience of around 9,000 people on each day of the festival. Since it is a festival for the youth and by the youth, the entire festival would be very lively and youthful.”
The curtain on the opening day of the festival will be raised with the farewell ceremony to the final year students of the college. An inter-college body building competition will be the highlight of the first day of the festival. Children from Don Bosco will present Sanskriti, a classical night, where young performers will present classical dance numbers.
On the second day, there will be a live band rock contest titled Pyrotechnix, where rock bands from the entire Northeast will vie for the prizes. The other programmes include performance by Still Waters, a professional rock band from Sikkim, and Mars and Venus, a personality contest for the students. The day will wrap up with a DJ nite.
Students of city-based North East Institute of Fashion Technology will present their first semester fashion show on the final day of the event. Popular fashion designer Meghana Rai Medhi will showcase her latest range of clothes at the show.
On the same day, music lovers will jive with Bollywood singer KK. Guitarist and local lad Kalyan Baruah, who is currently based in Mumbai, will also perform with KK. Sound recordist Eric Pillai will handle the sound on all three days of the festival.
“I am waiting for the festival with bated breath. We are going to have real fun for three days. The festival will be a welcome break from studies,” says Sukanya Deka, a student of the college.
