Guwahati, April 26: Another century by seasoned allrounder Mrigen Talukdar and a patient half-century by Arlen Konwar propelled NF Railway’s first innings total to a mammoth 429 against Guwahati on the second day of their three-day Nuruddin Ahmed trophy senior inter-district elite group cricket tournament semi-final at Barsapara cricket stadium here today.
Resuming at overnight 190 for six, the railmen today wrapped up their innings in 124.1 overs, taking a first innings lead of 341 runs.
Guwahati, who were dismissed for 88 runs in the first innings, were 54 for one in 24 overs in the second innings overs at close today. Opener Pallav Das and Rahul Hazarika were batting on 29 and 21 respectively.
Earlier in the day, Talukdar resumed at his overnight 36 to score 169 facing 246 deliveries. He slammed the Guwahati bowlers for 14 hits to the ropes and seven over-boundaries. He shared a partnership of 193 runs for the eighth wicket with Konwar (77) to take the team total to 417 before the latter was trapped leg before by Romario Sharma.
Talukdar also shared a 34-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Arup Das (24, 4x3). Talukdar was the last wicket to fall when he was caught at the slips by Abhijit Singha Roy off spinner Bikash Chetry.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Kunal Saikia yesterday scored brilliant 103 (4x15, 6x1) to put the side in a comfortable position. Konwar had yesterday hauled six for 34 while Talukdar had scalped two for nine.
