Inter-college football

Imphal, April 19: Moirang College defeated Kha Manipur College, Kakching, by a solitary goal in the A. Pratap Singh Manipur University Inter-College Football (men's) Tournament at Biramangol College, Sawombung, in Imphal East.

Both teams struggled hard in heavy underfoot conditions without scoring a goal in the first half. However, Moirang College sprang a surprise when Premchand Singh found the net in the 59th minute.

In the other matches, Maharaj Bodhchandra College drubbed Imphal College 5-0.

It was a one-sided affair as Maharaj Bodhchandra scored at regular intervals. Kh. Rahul Singh scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute while N. Narendra Singh consolidated in the 25th minute. In the second half, Bodhchandra College surged ahead with N. Narendra Singh scoring in the 34th minute, M. Devakumar Singh eight minutes later and Kh. Rahul Singh in the 56th minute for the victory.

In another match, Kamakhya Pemton College defeated Yangambam Kumar College, Wanjing via tie-breaker 4-3 after the teams were locked 1-1 during regulation time. The match proved to be a closely fought one with both teams struggling to come to terms with soggy ground conditions. Y.K. College, Wanjing, came up with the first goal in the 15th minute when M. Oken found the net.

N. Amarjit Singh of Kamakhya Pemton College fetched the equaliser in the 34th minute. In the tiebreaker, Kamakhya Pemton College scored three goals through Shoel Singh, N. Amarjit Singh and Askar Ahmedwhile Y.K. College found the net through Amarjit Singh and Sital Singh.
