Mizoram mulls pay panel scale next fiscal

The Mizoram government will implement the seventh pay commission's recommendations from fiscal 2018-19, state finance minister Lalsawta informed the Assembly on Wednesday.

Aizawl: The Mizoram government will implement the seventh pay commission's recommendations from fiscal 2018-19, state finance minister Lalsawta informed the Assembly on Wednesday.

Replying to queries from five members, Lalsawta said the government on 13 November last year formed a four-member pay implementation committee headed by former finance minister and the current vice-chairman of the State Planning Board, H. Liansailova, to study the feasibility of implementing the pay scale in the state.

He said the government has been waiting for the recommendations of the committee, which is yet to submit its report. The minister said the committee was instructed to submit its report within sixmonths of its formation.He said the state government will incur additional expenditure of Rs 46.93 crore monthly and Rs 563.24 crore annually when the recommendations are implemented.

In December last year, the Federation of Mizoram Government Employees and Workers had spearheaded a movement to demand the implementation of the pay commission recommendations. Employees under its banner had taken three days' mass casual leave.

As many as 387 villages in Mizoram have no health sub-centres and health clinic centre, Lal Thanzara told the house.

Typhus deaths

At least four persons died of scrub typhus infection in Mizoram during 2017-2018, health minister Lal Thanzara told the Assembly on Wednesday.

In a reply to K. Beichhua of the MNF, Lal Thanzara said three persons died of the scrub typhus infection in Aizawl district, while another died in Mamit district.
