According to the notification, counting of votes will start immediately after the poll is over and on receipt of all ballot boxes at the designated counting hall. In case of a repoll, the counting will take place the same day.

There are 19 wards, of which six are reserved for women under the Aizawl Municipal Corporation.

In the last AMC polls, the Congress and Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) alliance won 10 wards and the Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) and Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) combine bagged nine wards.

This time, the MNF has announced that it would go for it alone in the upcoming elections, while the Congress has formed an alliance with the MPC, founded by former chief minister late Brig. Thenphunga Sailo. The ZNP will contest the elections as a part of the BJP-led NDA.

The ruling Congress won 19 of 25 seats in the autonomous district council polls in 2010.
