Itanagar, March 30: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Mukut Mithi has sacked Lechi Legi, minister of state for fisheries and relief and rehabilitation on Saturday.

A notification in this regard has been issued last night. The chief minister took this decision on his return from New Delhi on last afternoon. The official reasons for Legi’s ouster have not been made public. However, sources close to the chief minister said that Legi was sacked for indulging in anti-party activities, including supporting rival party candidates in the state’s panchayat elections on April 2.

Mithi, who is also the PCC chief, has directed the Papum Pare district Congress committee on March 18 to serve showcause notice to Legi for his alleged anti-party activities.

Legi has been asked to stop his anti-party activities and support the official Congress candidate in the forthcoming panchayat polls, a party release stated. In another notification, Kahfa Bengia, minister trade and commerce, has been given the additional charge of the fisheries department.

Hmar exodus: A fresh exodus of over 200 Hmars from villages in the North Cachar Hills to Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar has prompted the district administration to open relief camps at several schools reports our Silchar correspondent.

The refugees claim they were forced to flee because of “persecution” by militants of the Dima Halam Daoga (DHD), but the outfit denies the allegation.
