Guwahati, Oct. 27: Beautiful mekhela sadors woven by the wives of Assam police personnel mesmerised actor Shabana Azmi at the Northeast Fest in Delhi, organised by Basics Concepts and Marketing Pvt Ltd, an event management company.

“She appreciated the work of our members and also bought a mekhela sador for herself for Rs 2,500,” president of the Assam Police Wives Welfare Association, Radha Choudhury, told The Telegraph today.

Azmi, who graced the inaugural function of the fest as the chief guest last evening, bought the sador from a stall put by the 1st Assam police battalion.

Soha Ali Khan, who is the brand ambassador of the fest, was also present at the function.

The fest, which will conclude on Tuesday, is being held at the NSIC ground at Okhla in the national capital.

Choudhury said 14 stalls have been put up by the association at the fest, where traditional garments and products made of cane such as magazine stands and trays were displayed.

“The traditional attires were made of pat, muga and toshor,” she said.

“Traditional Karbi jackets were also displayed. Members from different places such as Sivasagar, Morigaon, Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji have participated in the fest,” she added.

Choudhury said their members have got a good exposure through participation in the fest and they have been able to showcase their products before buyers and exporters.

“During the festival, they will also participate in workshops and seminars, which will help them hone their skills and improve their products,” she said.
