Imphal, Dec. 8: A newly formed Meitei organisation, International Meeteis Forum, today said it would not accept any solution to the demands of the NSCN (I-M) or Kuki militants without the consent of the Meiteis.

Announcing the formation of the forum, its spokeperson R.K. Rajendro Singh told reporters that the organisation was formed on December 5 to protect the interest of Meiteis and the territorial integrity of Manipur.

The announcement comes at a time when the Centre and the NSCN (Isak-Muivah) talks are nearing conclusion and Kuki organisations, including Kuki militant groups who have signed suspension of operations agreement with the Centre and the state government, are demanding creation of a Kuki state out of Manipur.

The forum demanded representation of Meiteis in the talks with the NSCN (I-M) and the Kuki militant groups.

“The International Meeteis Forum demands incorporation of an apex body of Meiteis in the dialogues and any agreement arrived at without the Meeteis will not be accepted,” Rajendro Singh, who is a former member of Manipur Human Rights Commission and a retired army officer, said.

Retired government officials and senior citizens are members of the forum.

Stating that the forum would safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur, Rajendro Singh said it would put pressure on the Centre and the Manipur government not to disturb Manipur’s geographical area.

The forum is also gearing up to seek support from indigenous communities in the Northeast to safeguard Manipur’s boundary.

It said the demands made by the NSCN (I-M) for integration of the Naga-inhabited areas and the Kuki militants groups, Kuki National Organisation and United Peoples’ Front, for a Kuki state were threats to the territorial integrity of Manipur.

The forum said it would not tolerate disturbing the territorial boundary of Manipur as a result of the talks with the NSCN (I-M) and Kuki militant groups. No agreement without the consent of Meiteis would be accepted, he reiterated.
