Guwahati, Dec. 25: Maharana Athletic Club defeated Royal Rhinos Club by 59 runs in the inaugural match of the 16th Servo Challenge prize-money cricket tournament that began at Latasil ground here today. Electing to bat first, Maharana were restricted to 197 for eight in the stipulated 25 overs, chasing which Royal Rhinos were bundled out for 138 in 20.4 overs.
Mimo Singha Roy topscored for Maharana with a steady 45 (4x6) and Manoj Malo chipped in with a quickfire 34 (4x6). Danes Das (29, 4x6) and Dhruba Das (28, 4x3, 6x1) were the other scorers for the side.
Sikandar Basumatary of Royal Rhino took three wickets for 25 runs and Chiranjeev Singh chipped in with two for 16. For Royal Rhino, Tidu Dubey scored 33 (4x4, 6x1) and Chirag Agarwal 29 (4x2, 6x2). Besides, Sikandar Basumatary chipped in with 18 runs. Mimo Singha Roy, Manoj Malo and Arun Basfore of Maharana took two wickets each for 12, 14 and 12 runs respectively. Mimo S. Roy was named Man of the Match.
Nabajyoti Club will play Vintage XI tomorrow.
Former Ranji cricketer Umesh Sarma, joint director of sports Rajib Prakash Baruah and former city mayor Queen Ojha attended the opening ceremony.
