Guwahati, May 26: Little Star English School today beat Kushal Konwar High School by 136 runs in a match of the 12th Dhan Sena Sinha Inter-school Cricket Tournament, organised by River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre, at Latasil ground here.
Batting first, Little Star piled up 180 runs losing five wickets within the stipulated 20 overs. Rohit Das scored 52 runs off 44 balls hitting five fours and a six, while Sahid Khan missed a half-century by one run and remained not out after facing 39 balls. He, too, hit five fours and a six.
Kushal Konwar's Dhruba Kalita scalped three wickets, giving away 30 runs in four overs.
Chasing the target, Kushal Konwar boys were bowled out for 44 runs in 10.5 overs.
Even the highest scorers - Chandan Deka with six runs in 10 balls and Dhruba Kalita with five runs in four balls -could not score in double digits.
Shivam Nath took three wickets by giving away six runs in 1.5 overs while Vikash Rai and Manish Kumar, both bowled two overs, baggedtwo wickets each by giving away four runs and 12 runs respectively.
In another match, St Loknath Academy was awarded a walkover as Ulubari Higher Secondary School was not present.
Tomorrow, Bethany High School will clash with Assam Vidya Mandir while Delhi Public School will face State Bank Officers' Association.
Umpires' course: A four-day BCCI Umpire Level I Education Course got under way at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, in Guwahati yesterday. Altogether 25 umpires (below 40 years) of Assam Cricket Association panel are attending the course. The BCCI has appointed T.R. Kashyappan of Chennai and V. Nerurkar of Mumbai as faculty members for the course. On the last day, the BCCI Level-I Umpire Examination will be held.
Tennis: Priyana Kalita of India has moved into the girls' under-18 singles quarter-finals of the World Junior Tennis Championship at Terengganu in Malaysia. In the prequarter-finals, she defeated Sara Nayar of Malaysia 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
