Adviser to the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Akhil Gogoi, on Monday said he would move court against alleged irregularities in recruitment in Assam’s panchayat and rural development department.

The RTI activist alleged that most of the posts went to relatives of BJP leaders and job aspirants recommended by them.

Addressing the media here, Akhil said: “Within this week we will be at Gauhati High Court. We have already prepared the documents and other necessary things in this regard. Like the job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission, people involved in this scam will be put behind bars. It may take a little longer, but we are determined to ensure their punishment.”

He said around 450 posts out of 886 went to BJP-favoured job-seekers in the department. He urged the government to collect the CCTV footages of the office rooms of the department from March 3 to 5 to know who came to meet top officials ahead of declaration of the results.

“The room where the optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets are kept should be sealed. This will help nab the culprits. We hope that the government does not say they do not have the footages,” he said.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered a one-man inquiry by additional chief secretary Jishnu Baruah to inquire into the allegations and submit a report to the government after the Opposition parties and various organisations, including AASU, pressured the government for a probe.

Earlier, the CID submitted its report on the irregularities in the recruitment held in May 2018 for vacant posts in the department. The CID stated numerous irregularities in 18 examination centres across nine districts.

Akhil said, “The inquiry is just a trick to delay the process. The chief minister keeps on saying that he has zero-tolerance against corruption. But what is this? The OMR sheets are not supposed to be taken out, but I have got one such OMR sheet which has been couriered to me. There is total lawlessness in this examination.”
