June 14: The local chapter of the International Society of Krshna Consciousness (Iskcon) is organising a two-day youth retreat camp with a view to inculcate Vedic culture among the youth.
The camp, to be held at the Iskcon temple complex at Ulubari from June 17, aims at promoting peace and harmony among the northeastern youth and increase awareness of the rich Vedic heritage.
“Today’s youth are without any direction in life. The onslaught of materialism and Westernism have taken away their peace of mind and inherent creativity. In this crucial time the camp will help them deal with life.” said Bhakta Hare Krishna Saharia, the programme co-ordinator.
Though this is the first time the course is being held in the Northeast, over 5,000 students from the IITs, IIMs, and other reputed educational institutions have already benefited from similar nationwide programmes, Saharia said.
Prerana, the two-day residential programme, will cover religious as well as non-religious subjects like peace of mind, character development, leadership ability, personality development, interactive discussions on goals and success in human life, the Bhagavad Gita, stress management, vegetarianism, practice of Vedic culture and chanting of Hare Krshna Mahamantra.
Participants will be trained in the philosophy of Krshna consciousness and its universal applicability, especially to the present day generation.
“The courses, which are scientific and practical-based, will teach the youth how to tap the fountains of inner happiness.
The camp will also help in developing the power of the mind, concentration, leadership ability and good health,” said Saharia.
