Duliajan College has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indira Gandhi Open University (Ignou) to introduce a number of competitive courses in its curriculum.
In the first phase, the college is planning to start Master of Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), a post-graduate diploma in journalism and mass communication, certificate courses in disaster management, environmental studies, human rights, computing and laboratory techniques.
Certificate courses primary education, rural development, teaching and tourism studies will also be included soon after.
The college authorities have appointed Dip Saikia, a senior lecturer of physics at the college, as the co-ordinator of the courses.
The principal of Duliajan College, Amrit Kr Gogoi, has requested interested candidates to contact with the co-ordinator without delay. Forms will be issued from May 15 and classes will begin from July this year.
Annual day
Jawahar Navodaya Vidylaya, Kalaigaon, celebrated its annual day on its cam pus in Udmari in Darrang on April 26.
Deputy commissioner and chairman of the school, Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, attended the ceremony as the chief guest and gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions.
Hazarika handed over the academic proficiency awards to students who secured a Grade A in all the subjects in the previous year.
Talent hunt
More than 10,000 students appeared for the National Public School Talent Search Examination 2008 organised by National Public School Society on May 3.
The examination was held in over 50 centres across the Northeast for students short-listed from 162 schools. The candidates were grouped into three categories: group A (Classes V and VI), group B (Classes VII and VIII) and group C (Classes IX and X).
According to the percentage of marks secured by them, the students will be rewa rded with scholarships.
