Tinsukia, June 15: Holy Child School defeated Hindi English High School by 28 runs to bag the title of the Tinsukia District Sports Association-organised inter-school under-14 cricket tournament in the final yesterday.

Holy Child scored 131, losing seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs, helped largely by a second-wicket partnership of 56 runs between Parmatma Saha (20) and Shahid Ahmed (68 off 38 balls). Gopal Mahato remained unbeaten on 12.

For Hindi English High School, Audhesh Sarmah picked up two wickets while Deepak Singh, Ashwini Verma, Kanhaiya Kumar and Vijay Singh shared a wicket each.

Requiring 6.6 per over, Hindi English school were never really in the hunt with Holy Child?s Dilip Verma, who finished with 3/9, and Mahato, spoiling the innings. Vijay Saha tried to anchor the innings with a patient knock of 27 of 44 balls while Ashwini Kumar contributed 20 of 19 balls.

However, the team could only score 103 in their stipulated 20 overs, losing eight wickets.

Shahid Ahmed of Holy Child was awarded the Man-of-the-Match as well as the Man-of-the-Tournament.
