Shillong, May 7: As the Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government swung into action to arrest former minister and NCP leader Adolf Lu Hitler Marak, the “accused” politician today said he was available and would appear before the police whenever required.

The police department had issued a summons against Hitler Marak a couple of weeks ago for his alleged links with the banned Achik National Volunteers Council (ANVC). The NCP leader’s involvement came to the fore after a government pool car, which belonged to him, was seized by the police after it was found ferrying militants.

The two ANVC members, who were travelling in the car, had gone to pick up a resident of Mizoram, identified as one Rongsangzuala, from the Indo-Bangladesh border near Balat under East Khasi Hill district of Meghalaya.

Rongsangzuala was reportedly assigned by Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga to visit Bangladesh and negotiate with ANVC chairman Dilash Marak for “peace talks”.

Unfazed by chief minister D.D. Lapang’s admission that he is “absconding”, Hitler Marak told this correspondent that he was very much at home and that he has not received any summons from the police.

“I am ready to appear before the police any time as I am not involved with the militants. As I had said before, I am ready to negotiate with the outfit.” He also stuck to his earlier stand that he had sent “two of my relatives who are surrendered ANVC militants to hand over the vehicle to the secretariat administration department”.

The police, however, said the two arrested persons were still with the ANVC. They are currently lodged in Tura district jail and are being interrogated.

Director-general of police L. Sailo told newsmen here this evening that the former minister cannot evade the police.
