AGP closes website

The AGP has closed down its website, www.agpassam.com, following reports of abuse in its discussion board (Alochana Mancha). Announcing the shutdown, convener of the party?s media cell, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya, said abusive messages were being posted on the website, which could impact upon the peace process with the Ulfa.

Green drive

The Pollution Control Board, Assam, has launched an initiative called the green school programme for school students to motivate them to keep their surroundings clean and green. The project will continue throughout the year.

Protest day

Members of the Guwahati unit of the All India Trade Union Congress will observe a nationwide protest day on Tuesday against the government decision to reduce the employees? provident fund rate to 8.5 per cent.

Seminar

The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal organised a seminar on Sunday to generate awareness among the people about the legal provisions available for settlement of disputes regarding telecom, broadcasting and cable services.

Award

Ashadeep, a city-based voluntary organisation, was awarded the fourth Roushan Phukan Memorial Award, 2005, by the Eastern India Women?s Association at a function on Saturday.

LLB exams

The LLB Part III (final) examinations, 2005 (under old regulations) under Gauhati University will be held in January. The last date for submission of examination fees and forms is December 29.

Meeting

The fifth annual general meeting of the Guwahati Senior Citizens? Association, at Pensioners? Bhawan on Saturday, discussed various problems of the elderly.

Project

State minister of handloom and textiles Hemo Prova Saikia recently laid the foundation stone of a multistoreyed building of Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College. The project cost is estimated at Rs 3 crore.
