Guwahati, Nov. 6: Gurukul Grammar School entered the semi-finals of the 10th Golap Hazarika inter-school (under-16) cricket tournament at Dispur Parade Ground here, while North East English School made it to the quarter-finals.

In the first quarter-final today, Gurukul tamed Guwahati Public School by nine wickets while in the last league encounter, North East English School prevailed over Blue Star English School by 101 runs.

Electing to bat first, Guwahati Public School were bundled out for 81 runs in 15 overs and Gurukul Grammar School reached 82 losing only one wicket in 10 overs.

For Guwahati Public School, Syed Asifur Rahman topscored with 37 runs and Raktab Das contributed nine runs.

Anshuman Das of Gurukul took three wickets for 16 runs and Kaustav Deka claimed one for 21 while the rest of the batsmen were run out.

Gitartha Sarma topscored for Gurukul with an unbeaten 28 off 12 balls to be eventually adjudged Man of the Match.

Kaustav Deka scored 24 while A. Zaman claimed the only wicket, giving away nine runs.

In the afternoon league match, NE English School elected to bat first and scored 207 for four in 20 overs.

In reply, Blue Star English School were bundled out for 96 in 18.5 overs.

Dipak Pajiar topscored for NE School with a solid 60 off 38 balls, while Nurul Amin contributed 45 off 25 balls and Bhaskar Das 43 off 29 balls. Jyoti Kumar Das also chipped in with an explosive 29 facing only nine deliveries. Amit Kumar claimed two wickets for 28 runs.

Amit Kumar (28) was the only notable scorer for Blue Star.

Jyoti Kumar Das, Bhaskar Saikia and Dipak Pajiar took two wickets each, giving away 11, 13 and 13 runs respectively. Pajiar was named the Man of the Match.

In the second and third quarter-finals tomorrow, NE School will play Srimanta Sankar Academy and Combine English School meet Adarsh Hindi Vidyalaya.
