Shillong, April 1: Two motorcycle-borne men, suspected to be militants, lobbed a grenade near a bus station at Williamnagar in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district today. However, no one was injured in the incident as the grenade failed to explode.

The incident occurred between 4pm and 4.30pm when the men lobbed the grenade near the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) bus station, East Garo Hills superintendent of police Davis Marak said over phone. The area is said to be crowded as the marketplace is alongside the bus station.

Although Marak said the men are suspected to be militants, the police are yet to ascertain to which group the men belonged to. There are nearly 11 militant groups operating in the Garo hills region. This incident comes at a time when militant-related activities have shown a decline in the region recently.
