Jorhat, Oct. 29: Green Valley SC of Guwahati on Thursday defeated 9th Assam Police Battalion 1-0 to enter the semi-finals of the 49th Assam Tea Planters Association (ATPA) Shield football tournament being played at Jorhat Stadium.

Abraham Goodluck headed in the winning goal in the seventh minute of the second half of play today. The first half was a lacklustre goalless affair.

Green Valley displayed better temperament on the field today, launching several raids. Their defence, too, impressed the crowd. APBn started strongly in the second half but they could not penetrate the rival’s defence.

The first semi-final will be played between Assam Rifles and Oil India Sports Club tomorrow, while the second semi-final will be an all-Guwahati affair with today’s winner Green Valley taking on Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) on Saturday.
